- The dog breeding education section
has more of useful information.
- If you are considering becoming a
breeder and we
- hope established dog breeders will
use it as a reference tool.
- Whether you are already an
experienced dog breeder,
- or just a beginner and want
to breed in a responsible manner.
Ask yoursef
the following questions
Do you believe....
If you are contemplating dog breeding,
there are certain questions that you will need to ask yourself before
proceeding:
* Have I the time to devote to a litter until the
puppies are old enough to go to their new homes, which is usually
around eight weeks?
* Am I knowledgeable enough to advise new owners
about the various aspects of caring for their puppies, including
rearing, diet, training and health problems?
Can I afford to pay for the recommended health tests for the Dam
prior to mating her and,
where necessary, her litter?
* Do I know enough to help the Dam during the
whelping, if necessary?
* Can I afford to pay for a caesarean should the dam
have difficulty whelping the litter?
* Could I cope with a very large litter of, say, 10
or 12 puppies?
* Do I have sufficient knowledge to rear the litter
correctly, including on worming, vaccinations and socialization?
* Would I be able to find good homes for the puppies?
* Am I in a position to take back or re-home any
puppies if it becomes necessary?
If you have
not
been able to say yes to all of the above questions,
then dog breeding may not be for you.
If not you may want to consider having your Dam spayed to prevent
unwanted or unplanned pregnancies;
your vet will be able to will be able to assist you with this process.
If you have been able to say yes to all of the above questions,
do not forget that you will also need to keep the following in mind:
*
Responsible dog breeders believe that each litter that they breed,
should be an improvement on the parents.
* Responsible dog breeders give careful
consideration to health issues,
temperament and soundness.
* Responsible dog breeders plan ahead of each mating
so as to
ensure that each puppy produced will be bred in the best possible
environment.
* Responsible dog breeders accept responsibility for
a puppy which
they have bred,
and make themselves available to give advice, help and
information to new owners.
* Helping new breeders , breed
responsibible is very imporntant to ensure the integerity
of the breed and breeding, we support all efforts in this direction.
* Dogs are not a commidoty to better
your lifestyle with breeding,
you are an asset to better the breed with
your knowledge and experience,
what do you have to offer your clients
and future litters.
* We encourage all breeders to offer
your litters and dogs the best possible start you can, taking into
consideration, everything you enstill in your litters will reflect in
how these puppies grow and develop into adults.
Take time to CARE.
* Training , we encourage all
breeders to offer training , what type of training depends on your
breed. Why? Because breeding is no longer just about
whelping , and rearing it is very simply put, it's about the
puppy, offer it the best start. Check out our Training section for
simple tips on how you can get started on the fast track.... and give
your puppies a great start.
* Puppies should not be placed in new
homes prior to 6-8 weeks old , varies by State law , all states require
puppies have teeth, and be weaned from their mother.
* Written contracts of Health with
each puppy and health guarantee.
* Responsible breeders cull out
unhealthy breeding stock, and are ethical in breeding practices.
We take pride in supporting
RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES
